Before you buy — what ownnotes cannot do

• —It records your microphone, and the audio of a browser tab you choose to share. Chrome and Edge offer that; Safari and Firefox do not offer audio with a screen share at all, so in those you get your own microphone only.
• —Sharing a single application window carries no audio in any browser. It has to be a tab, or a whole screen.
• —On a phone or a tablet there is no screen sharing to take audio from, so it is your microphone only.
• —It cannot silently record a meeting app. There is no way to point it at Zoom or Teams and have it listen — the browser records only what you hand it through its own picker, and it shows its own indicator the whole time.
• —A video track is what the browser demands in exchange for shared audio. ownnotes never renders it, never records it, and keeps no video at any point.
• —English only, and there is no per-name speaker labelling. “You” and “Others” come from the two separate tracks rather than being guessed, which is the honest version and not the fancy one.
• —Transcription runs in the tab on a model of about 67 MB that downloads once. On a long or busy call it can fall behind and catch up after you stop; the recording is kept regardless.
• —Meetings are held in one browser on one computer, and there is no sync and no account holding them — so the exports are the backup, and a browser told to clear its site data will clear the meetings.
